How to create a LOOK AHEAD SCHEDULE in Primavera P6
LOOK AHEAD SCHEDULE
Look ahead schedule is the list of activities in a schedule which will take place in the near future say one week, two weeks, one month or so. The time period varies from project to project and client to client. But the idea in creating look ahead schedule is same whatever be the time constraint.
LOOK AHEAD SCHEDULE also supports to communicate with the Project Team / Site Team what the upcoming activities are within the look ahead period so that necessary planning can be done in advance to put everything in order by arranging all necessary resources to execute the Project activities.
Primavera P6 has a “Filter” feature that helps you to create a filter for displaying the next step items.
In this article, we will create a 4-Week LOOK AHEAD FILTER in the schedule.
Figure 1 below shows a demonstration Project.
The Blue bars in the Gantt Chart indicates “Completed Activities” while the Red bars and Green bars indicate future Critical and Non-Critical activities respectively.
Click on the Filter Icon on the Toolbar as demonstrated in the figure 2
This opens the Filters Dialogue, Figure 3.
Click New to add a new Custom Filer.
We want to show all activities that are supposed to start in next 04 weeks, so we program the filter as in Figure 4.
The Data Date (DD) is the last date we updated our progress up to.
We run the Filter, figure 5
In Figure 5, we see activities only that start in next four weeks, September are displayed. But this Filter fails to shows the set of activities that started prior to the Data Date of 25-Aug-16, and are supposed to finish in later dates.
Therefore, we need to add another line of code in our Filter routine.
We have a code with first Parameter “Any of the Following” The new parameter is “Activity Status” and the value is “In Progress”, Figure 6.
We test our filter, Figure 7. Now we capture all Activities that start in next four weeks or are in progress.
LOOK AHEAD FILTERS in Primavera P6 are essential tools to monitoring & reporting your Project progress on an ongoing basis and help to control the job vigorously.
